Shohei Ohtani’s wife Mamiko Tanaka made a rare appearance alongside her fellow Los Angeles Dodgers’ WAGs in celebration of the club’s 2025 World Series win.
“My girls 🫶🏻💙 #big3 #dodgers #worldseries,” Chelsea Freeman, wife of first baseman Freddie Freeman, wrote via Instagram on Saturday, November 1, after her husband and the rest of the L.A. Dodgers won Game 7 of the World Series, 5-4, against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Freeman shared a photo featuring Tanaka and Brianna Betts, wife of famed shortstop Mookie Betts. All three women could be seen smiling at the camera while wearing matching team jackets featuring their husband’s respective numbers in bright red.
A second photo shared featured a large group of women (presumably the wives and/or partners of the entire team) wearing the same jackets.
Ohtani and his wife have been married since February 2024 — and the World Series winner is not the only athlete in the relationship. After a collegiate career at Waseeda University, Tanaka played professional basketball for the Japan Basketball League’s Fujitsu Red Wave for four years before she retired in 2023.
News of their marriage was a surprise — even to the Dodgers — at the time. Ohtani shared the big life update via Instagram on February 29, 2024.
“The season is approaching, I am pleased to announce to you that I have gotten married,” CNN reported a translation of his post read. “We are still young and [there are] many things we don’t know yet, but we hope you will warmly watch over us,” he continued, “we hope that the two of us (and one dog) will work together to support each other and move forward alongside with our fans.”
Ohtani went on to announce the pair were expecting in December 2024. “Can’t wait for the little rookie to join our family soon!” Ohtani wrote via Instagram alongside a picture of a pink onesie, white baby shoes, a sonogram and their dog, Decoy. They went on to welcome their first child, a daughter, in April 2025.

“Welcome to the Ohtani family! I am so grateful to my loving wife who gave birth to our healthy beautiful daughter,” he wrote via Instagram at the time. “To my daughter, thank you for making us very nervous yet super anxious parents I would also like to thank the Dodgers organization, my teammates, and the fans for their constant support and kind words of encouragement. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to all the medical professionals and everyone who dedicated their support to us, up until this wonderful day.”
The baseball star was heavily pursued by multiple MLB teams after playing five seasons in Japan. He signed with the Los Angeles Angels in 2017, and announced his decision to leave the team for the Dodgers in December 2023 — a move that came with a 10-year, $700 million contract.
Ohtani thanked his former team via Instagram shortly after signing with the Dodgers.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone involved with the Angels organization and the fans who have supported me over the past six years, as well as to everyone involved with each team that was part of this negotiation process,” he wrote. “Especially to the Angels fans who supported me through all the ups and downs, your guys’ support and cheer meant the world to me. The six years I spent with the Angels will remain etched in my heart forever.”
He added: “And to all Dodgers fans, I pledge to always do what’s best for the team and always continue to give it my all to be the best version of myself. Until the last day of my playing career, I want to continue to strive forward not only for the Dodgers but for the baseball world.”
