The former New Jersey GOP aide who allegedly paid a fetish artist to cut her up in a fake, politically motivated attack is a glamorous, Maserati-driving ex-law school student with small-town roots, sources said Friday.
Natalie Greene, 26 — who is accused of staging a horrific ambush in which assailants supposedly scrawled “Trump Whore” on her stomach — began Rutgers law school last year but is no longer enrolled there, a spokesperson for the college told The Post.
The former congressional aide to Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ) also drives a pricey Maserati SUV, in which police allegedly found zip ties — one clue that she had faked the attack, according to prosecutors.
Before her arrest Wednesday, Greene posted photos of herself dressed to the nines in a stylish sequined red dress with a Gucci clutch on Facebook — but her social media pages were quickly scrubbed after her alleged hoax made national news.
Greene hails from the small Jersey Shore town of Ocean City and is the daughter of Becky Greene, who works in human resources at the town’s public library. Her dad, Tim Greene, works at a sign company.
She worked for Van Drew’s office while also attending school at the time of the alleged hoax attack.
“At the age of 26, my client served her community working full time to assist the constituents of the Congressman with loyalty and fidelity. She did that while being a full time student,” her lawyer, Louis Barbone, said in a statement Friday.
“Under the law she is presumed innocent and reserves all of her defenses for presentation in a court of law.”
Greene was arrested Wednesday and charged with hatching the bogus ambush at Egg Harbor Township Nature Reserve on July 23, the US Attorney’s Office for New Jersey said.
Two days before the alleged phony assault, Greene drove to Pennsylvania and paid a body modification artist she found on Instagram $500 to deliberately carve gruesome wounds into her face, neck, chest, back, and shoulders with a scalpel, the court documents alleged.
The alleged fraudster claimed three gun-wielding men approached her on a trail, hog-tied her with black zip ties, and held her down while slashing her face and body.
She also claimed that “TRUMP WHORE” and “Van Drew is a racist” were scrawled on her body with black marker.
Prosecutors said Greene was taken to a hospital, where she and her accomplice gave police conflicting accounts of what happened and provided faulty descriptions of the phantom assailants.
“While Natalie is no longer associated with the congressman’s government office, our thoughts and prayers are with her and hope she’s getting the care she needs,” Van Drew’s office told the outlet.
Greene was charged with conspiracy to convey false statements and hoaxes and making false statements to federal law enforcement.
Locals called the staged ambush mind-boggling and disturbing.
“As a conservative, it makes me sad, but more as a human being, because those pictures with all the cuts, they turn my stomach,” Fiona Tierney, 49, said Thursday.
“I feel for this girl, I really do … Because at the end of the day, we’re talking about a 25-year-old girl, a beautiful girl, whose politics aren’t supposed to reach that level of extreme. Now she’s got to spend the rest of her life with these scars to remind her of what she did.”
Tom Lillis, 54, said Greene had likely ruined her life with the hoax.
“It’s just so hard to wrap my head around it. What was she thinking? And to do it with that level of intent, to where you’d travel to Philly and you’d spend all this money and go through all this pain and trouble,” he said of her alleged trip to a body modification specialist.
“Obviously she’s not well in the head if she thought this was a good idea,” he said. “It’s heartbreaking — a beautiful, idealistic girl who threw her life away in the stupidest, craziest way possible.”
