Directors Guild of America seeks to limit actors from directing due to the new normal: ohnotheydidnt — LiveJournal

-Due to the new normal of short and limited tv productions, DGA has seen a 40% downturn in production jobs over the last four years, which has resulted in roughly 19,500 DGA members out of work. As such they are doing whatever they can to protect their fellow career directors.

-The DGA “seeks to preserve valuable episodic directing slots for career directors by limiting the number of episodes that can be directed by those who have no track record in directing and are already employed in other capacities on a scripted series.”

-The new contract also establishes a new “Pilot Directed by” credit, which will appear as a separate card on every single episode of a television series.

-In regards to AI, they specify that directors must still have full control over how it is used within productions.
