Kentucky teacher, soccer coach busted for sex with student after anonymous tip

A Kentucky high school teacher and assistant soccer coach has been arrested for allegedly having sex with a student after an anonymous tip.

Mary “Hanna” Mattingly, a 31-year-old substitute teacher at Bardstown High School in Kentucky, was arrested Monday after she allegedly had “sexual contact” with the student and sent him nude photographs, the Bardstown Police Department announced.

Mattingly, who also served as an assistant girl’s soccer coach, was immediately placed on leave last week after the school received an anonymous letter alleging she and an unidentified student had “inappropriate contact,” the Lexington Herald Leader reported.

“Bardstown City Schools immediately initiated an investigation, removed the individual from her job duties, placed her on administrative leave and alerted the authorities,” Bardstown City Schools’ Superintendent Ryan Clark told the paper.

Investigators alleged that Mattingly “being in the position of special trust as a school teacher at Bardstown High School, engaged in sexual contact with a high school student.”

She and the student also exchanged messages over the phone and she allegedly sent him “partially nude” photographs, according to police.

Mattingly was arrested on Monday and charged with first-degree sexual abuse and procuring or promoting abuse of a minor by electronic means, police said.

She was being held on a $20,000 bond at the Nelson County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court on April 7, jail records show.

Bardstown, a city of about 13,500, is located about 40 miles south of Louisville.
