Taylor Swift’s legal team filed a trademark opposition requesting that Cathay Home’s “Swift Home” trademark be blocked by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Cathay Home sells home goods and they currently hold a trademark for “Swift Home” in category 024 (this category covers a range of bedding such as sheets, blankets, comforters, pillowcases, etc), which was approved in 2015. At some point between then and now, Cathay Home reached a consent-to-coexist agreement with Taylor’s team regarding that existing trademark.
In May 2025, Cathay Home applied for another Swift Home trademark. Last week, Taylor’s team filed a notice of opposition, claiming that “the stylized cursive font is highly similar” to Taylor’s logo. Her team claims that the similarity “will falsely suggest a connection” between Cathay’s bedding and Taylor Swift and that “consumers are likely to mistakenly believe that [Cathay]’s goods are sponsored by or associated with [Taylor].”

Over the weekend, Cathay Home’s lawyer, Ting Geng from Geng and Associates, said in a statement that Cathay has withdrawn its new trademark application after evaluating the circumstances.
Taylor Swift has filed more than 300 trademarks in the United States and other jurisdictions, securing her name, initials, album titles, and various lyrics.
